This course will focus on tolerances and acceptable measurements under the ADA and will explain the differences between conditions that are 1) fully compliant as measured, 2) within true “industry tolerances”, 3) de minimis variances from the standards, 4) considered acceptable, and 5) “hopefully close enough”. Participants will also learn when each of these concepts might apply to a specific facility. Finally, the instructor will give examples of various conditions that might fall within each of those categories and explain why.

This course will define and explain some of the most often confused and misapplied concepts in the ADA and other common accessibility standards used throughout the United States.  Participants will then review and discuss how those concepts, terms, and exceptions are properly applied in practice using dozens of examples.

This course will focus on the 2018 RAS Procedures. It will provide TDLR insight on how RAS are expected to perform and how those expectations work within the new Texas Architectural Barriers online System (TABS).
