Biography

Stacey has worked in the field of accessibility for 24 years. She got her start at the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) as a plan reviewer shortly after receiving her BS in Interior Design.

Having worked for TDLR for seven years, she gained extensive knowledge of statutory, administrative and technical requirements of both state and federal accessibility compliance. While at TDLR, Stacey was named the Communication, Education, and Training Team Leader and was responsible for official technical communications of the Architectural Barriers department. Some favorite projects were leading the initiative to train Building Officials on state law, designing training for Registered Accessibility Specialists, and working with the Texas Historical Commission on the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.

In 2007, Stacey formed her accessibility consulting business. Working in the central Texas area, she primarily focuses on performing plan reviews and inspections in accordance with the Elimination of Architural Barriers law and helps business owners validate ADA and TAS complaints. In 2016, she received her MS in Construction Management from Louisiana State University.

Licensed as a Registered Accessibility Specialist and Registered Interior Designer in Texas, she has served on APA's Board of Directors for two terms, and enjoyed many years alongside APA colleagues on the Legislative, Technical and Jim Boyce Memorial Scholarship Committees. She holds membership in the International Interior Design Assn. (IIDA), Texas Assn. for Interior Designers (TAID), and the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). She received an APA President's Award in 2021, and in October of 2023 was appointed by the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation to the Architectural Barriers Advisory Committee.

Stacey is currently the Vice President for the LSU Austin Alumni Board of Directors, and is also President-elect of the Women’s Symphony League of Austin. Stacey and her husband Joel have two high-school aged sons, Emmett and Fox. She loves researching genealogy for family and friends and going to music concerts of all genres in her spare time.
